After September 11th, the government put in a lot of money in order to strengthen the security of the United States. One of the places that you will see this the most is the airport and their new rules. One cannot carry anything that may be used as a weapon such as small nail clippers, tweezers, nail files, sicors etc. Also, parked cars must now be 300 feet away from the airport and since the terrorist attack, many parking lots have been open to the public far from the airport which is a bit annoying, but is only for our safety. Also, curbside check-in has been eliminated so that when a baggage is checked in, is done with even greater caution inside. Also there are increased inspections of shoes, baggages, and purses and although this is a good idea, the people who have these jobs are usually poorly trained or poorly paid and just dont care. Also, something has been set up to make sure that a passenger and its baggage are both on a plane- not just the luggage (even though this would not help us with suicide bombers). ID's and passports are frequently checked, as a new measure of security.
Hotels have also changed their security, although not as much as the airports have. They have reinforced escape routes, made sure that their front desk employees always check I.D., and secured accesses to interior hallways and guest rooms. Some added a security staff and changed their security procedures as well. They also went over their security cameras, sprinklers, and electronic locks just to make sure everything was perfectly secure.
Lastly, its been much more difficult to obtain a visa card, and for the middle eastern people, when they immigrate, they must have a visa, valid passport, and give a fingerprint. Security has also been much more strict on who can and cannot cross borders in the states of America. All of these security changes have gone on because of September 11th's terrorist attacks.
